Encouraged by... a Steamboat?
24 June, 2004 I'm inspired. "By what?" you all wonder. Well, I just came back from a steamboat (hee.. I'm not trying to rub it in while you're having your exams :p... just wanted to share this with all of you...)
It was a simple steamboat with some fishballs and mushrooms and prawns (yum) but what touched my heart was the company and the sharing . "By who?" you then wonder. By all who were present... the volunteers and students who're with SYFC. I don't really know them well but I felt welcome and cozy there. Why? Coz of the way in which each of them were so comfortable with serving each other. Some helped with the dishes, some served drinks, some were putting food onto each other's plates... and all were included in the conversation.
What warmed my heart was also my friend's mum's sharing after the steamboat. It came spontaneously as we were eating her wonderful red bean soup (which she claims is "anyhow cook one").With tears welling up in her eyes, she shared about her daughter's support and encouragement in the ups and downs of her life, about how she enjoys being a housewife and serving her family, about how she appreciates her family, and how she wants to serve the community because of the love of the Lord. I was also touched by the wya she plants the seed of the gospel in the hearts of children in the community by playing bball, badminton or other outdoor games with them. There's so much thanksgiving and joy in the Lord in her. Her testimony about her family and her daughter was indeed touching. I was really really touched. I wish that one day, her whole family would be saved... and my own family too. What joy a family would have in the Lord!
As I meet these people of different backgrounds and character, I feel inspired by their enthusiasm and desire to meet people and serve the Lord. Hopefully, some of it can rub off onto me as I work with them and may we encourage one another in love and service! :)
