Encouraged by... a Steamboat?

24 June, 2004
I'm inspired. "By what?" you all wonder. Well, I just came back from a steamboat (hee.. I'm not trying to rub it in while you're having your exams :p... just wanted to share this with all of you...)
It was a simple steamboat with some fishballs and mushrooms and prawns (yum) but what touched my heart was the company and the sharing . "By who?" you then wonder. By all who were present... the volunteers and students who're with SYFC. I don't really know them well but I felt welcome and cozy there. Why? Coz of the way in which each of them were so comfortable with serving each other. Some helped with the dishes, some served drinks, some were putting food onto each other's plates... and all were included in the conversation.
What warmed my heart was also my friend's mum's sharing after the steamboat. It came spontaneously as we were eating her wonderful red bean soup (which she claims is "anyhow cook one").With tears welling up in her eyes, she shared about her daughter's support and encouragement in the ups and downs of her life, about how she enjoys being a housewife and serving her family, about how she appreciates her family, and how she wants to serve the community because of the love of the Lord. I was also touched by the wya she plants the seed of the gospel in the hearts of children in the community by playing bball, badminton or other outdoor games with them. There's so much thanksgiving and joy in the Lord in her. Her testimony about her family and her daughter was indeed touching. I was really really touched. I wish that one day, her whole family would be saved... and my own family too. What joy a family would have in the Lord!
As I meet these people of different backgrounds and character, I feel inspired by their enthusiasm and desire to meet people and serve the Lord. Hopefully, some of it can rub off onto me as I work with them and may we encourage one another in love and service! :)

Have anything you wanna share? Blog or Tag!

Dreams, eternity and now.

22 June, 2004
Hello Everybody, don’t mind me but I’m here to blog again! As Sam-body puts it, my blogs are quite cheem. Haha. Buy hey, it’s good for you all. If u’ve been reading the posts on Mr LT and think it’s cheem, Let me introduce you to Ms Cecilia Perh. ( Yah, remember me inviting you for her session?) She’s a powerful speaker with a lot of conviction and confidence in the word of God (not to mention knowledge too).

The session in a nutshell (conversation style btw JT and Ms C.P.)

Ms C.P.: What are your dreams? How do you want to live your life to the fullest?
JT: To travel the world.
Ms C.P.: Only the world? What about the galaxy? I want to swim with the sharks and explore the depths of the sea you know…
JT: erm, just this earth will do lah
Ms C.P.: okie (writes on board: JT wants to travel everywhere on this earth)
(pause)
Ms C.P.: So what do you think you need to achieve this dream?
JT: erm… time… money…
Ms C.P.: So how much money do you think you need?
JT: erm… 10 million?
Ms C.P.: okie. Anything else?
JT: erm… determination…
Ms C.P.: yes! You definitely need discipline and perseverance. You need character more than anything else. Actually, you need character to fulfill any dream. So do you think you can fulfill your dreams now?
JT: erm… If I want to travel everywhere… cannot leh. I old already…
Ms C.P.: That’s right! Even if we have all the resources, we are limited by time, mortality and DEATH!
JT: okie…
Ms C.P.: What happens after DEATH?
JT: live in eternity…
Ms C.P.: what about your dreams? Can you fulfill all of them in eternity?
JT: erm…
Ms C.P.: Yes! You can! In heaven you have eternity to live and all the resources and a new wonderful body and a new wonderful place to explore in the presence of GOD!
JT: whoa…
Ms C.P.: So can you postpone your dream to eternity?
JT: Yah… haha.
Ms C.P.: So what must you do now? Things you cannot do in eternity right? True or not?
(JT nods)
Ms C.P.: So what can’t you do?
JT: sharing gospel to non-Christians…
Ms C.P.: That’s right… some more?
JT: erm
Ms C.P.: Look, to know what you need to do now and what you can do in eternity, you need to know your Bible!
JT: oh…
Ms C.P.: you cannot neglect Bible study in this life! A lot of people don’t realize this and go on to pursue their dreams, forgetting that there’s eternity to fulfill them! That’s why so many people spend ALL their time on education and career to earn the money to fulfill the dreams and neglect Bible study! Do you know where you all are heading? Are you all living life to the fullest now? Are you studying the Bible?!

(JT feels blown away. Much to think about. What about you? Drop a line!)

Mr LT's session on apologetics no.2

21 June, 2004
Quote of the day no.1:
Conformity to God is not uniformity.

Quote of the day no.2:
Reason cannot come from non-reason.

The flaw in evolution:
student: Man is not created by God on the seventh day. Man came from evolution and the big bang.
Mr LT: Are you asking me a reasonable question?
Student: Of course.
Mr LT: Are you asking me a reasonable question with a reasonable mind?
Student: Yes.
Mr LT: Where did your reason come from?
Student: From my parents of course.
Mr LT: Where did your parents' reason come from?
Student: From my grandparents.
Mr LT: And your grandparents' reason?
Student: From my great grandparents...
Mr LT: And so your reason goes all the way back..
Student: yes...
Mr LT: You are reasonable because your parents are reasonable, because your grandparents are reasonable... and so on. Reason comes from reason. If Man came from the big bang and from evolution, which is random, where did your reason come from?
Student: ...

JT's concluding remarks upon conversing with Mr LT:
Reason cannot be random and unreasonable. For us to be reasonable, our ancestors have to come from reason, and the first reason must pre-exist all of us. The first reason exists absolutely on its own and this first reason is God.

Quote of the day no.1:
The woman is not an after-thought of God,
She is an after-act of God.

Quote of the day no.2:
My idea of God is too small;
My idea of Self is too big.

Of Good, Evil and God
Student: Good exists and so does Evil. And if Evil is the opposite of Good, and Evil is finite, then Good is finite too. If God is Good, and Good is finite, then God is finite.
Mr LT: Are you sure that Evil exists as the opposite of Good?
(Mr LT pauses)
Mr LT: Let me put it this way, this room is too well-lit or too bright. I want to make this room darker. How do I do it?
Student: Switch off the lights...
Mr LT: Do you switch on darkness? No... there is no darkness that exists independently on its own.
Student: And so...
Mr LT: Darkness is an Absence of light. Similarly, Evil does not exist apart from Good. Evil is an absence of Good.
Student: If God is infinite, and Evil is the absence of Good... then...
(Student has more to think about now)

JT's concluding remarks:
Evil exists as the absence of Good.
Good does not exist as the absence of Evil because Good pre-exists.

A lot to think about here... have you all wondered?
That's from Mr LT's session on apologetics at EH. Yep :)
