Armed for Battle II

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Ephesians 6:15

"Stand firm then ... with the breastplate of righteousness in place"

In days of the old, battle was about arm-to-arm combat, swords and arrows. (No tanks, no nuclear weapons, no biowarfare) When guns weren't in the picture, bulletproof vests were out of place. So, the Roman soldiers had those heavy metal armours and their breastplates protected them from flaming arrows and fatal blows directed at their hearts.

We are told to put on the breastplate of righteousness as our armour. Righteousness? Whose righteousness? My righteousness would look all old, rusty and crumbly. No, not our righteousness, but the righteousness from Christ. When children of God stumble and sin, we are not to be deceived into thinking that we have fallen from grace. We have the righteousness of Christ that defends us against Satan's accusations of unrighteousness, past or present. We have been made righteous and the final battle has already been won.

Let's arm ourselves with the breastplate of righteousness and take assurance and security in the fact that all the accusations of Satan are warded off in the righteousness of Christ!
